ARTIST STATEMENT
Created under an umbrella of oppressive circumstances where ‘freedom of speech’ and open debate is not encouraged or tolerated, especially dialogues that engages ‘colonialism’ past, present and future.
Invited to participate in a international residency that specified artistic and cultural exchange with Indigenous Taiwanese + Aboriginal Formosan’s, I witnessed ‘censorship’ of a Hong Kong artist by
the hosting institution of their work and voice.
A visual collision of multiple narratives covert and overt that are insidiously demoralising. Overtly I use ‘Cowboys + Indians’ as the Trojan Horse. A children's game inspired by cinema where wooden
sticks and role play of ‘good’ vs ‘evil’ theatrics are interjected.
Covertly it is a call too stand your ground, reverse the narrative, decolonise.
